A former Royal Australian Navy Signals Communications sailor has won the 2020 Australian Computer Society’s indigenous IT student scholarship which supports and showcases indigenous achievement in Information Technology studies.
Newly published figures show that 40,000 jobs were created in Australia’s ICT sector in the two years between 2015 and 2016, but the task ahead to create and grow the country’s ICT workforce further is a major challenge for the industry.
The Australian Computer Society says the budget falls short in providing sufficient funds to address the ICT skills gap and wants the federal government to allocate more funding to overcome the problem.
