Cloud market needs industry watchdog

An industry watchdog which can police the cloud computing market is needed to avoid enterprises coming unstuck when offloading their computing to a cloud provider. In the same way that APRA keeps an eye on the local banks, delivering a measure of comfort when people hand over their dosh, a cloud watchdog would provide a measure of comfort when people hand over their data.

A Gartner analyst has taken issue with the Federal, NSW and Victorian governments for allowing suppliers of bespoke software developed for government contracts to retain the intellectual property in the software, but has been especially critical of the AIIA, the industry body that lobbied to have this policy introduced.

NSW plans pre-election IT contract

The NSW Government is working toward releasing the new Procure IT contract on February 22 just days before the State election is expected to be held in March 2011.
