Optus launches 5G Standalone

Telecommunications company Optus has launched its 5G Standalone network after close to year of testing including customer trials, offering network slicing, cloud orchestration edge computing and self-healing networks that will elevate connectivity capabilities.

Nokia, Optus and Samsung Electronics Australia announced that they have achieved a data session using 3 Components (3CC) Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology over a 5G Standalone (SA) network in Australia, claimed to be the first time this has been done using a commercial smartphone.

Telstra and Ericsson claim to have completed Australia's first end-to-end 5G standalone call at the 5G Innovation Centre on the Gold Coast, over the 3.6GHz spectrum and using Ericsson's Baseband 6630, Radio AIR6488 and a 5G SA device based on a MediaTek chipset.
