UE Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom …

By

If ever you wanted to annoy the neighbours just invite oh, say, 50 of your UE Boom owning, close friends over for a party. UE’s new app lets you link oh, say, 50 together to Boom, chicka, boom, boom, chicka boom, boom, boom …

In theory, it can link an unlimited number of UE Boom, Boom 2 and MEGABOOM speakers together. The app allows a kind of mesh network where you link to one main speaker and any speaker within a 30-metre radius (Bluetooth LE effective distance).

The “Party Up” app update can be downloaded from Apple App Store or Google Play. It is extremely easy to use –  the app discovers all UE Boom speakers within range, and you can drag and drop these onto your network.

John Patterson, regional manager for UE in Australia/Pacific, demonstrated to me just how easy it was. He bought in his three UE Boom speakers and within seconds the sound was filling the room.

“You know we are thinking of all sorts of uses – perhaps at the footy, a music festival, or beach party. The possibilities are endless,” he said. In fact, UE has a Twitter hashtag for this behaviour #partyup

I added that there was one flaw in his thinking, “That is assuming everyone owns a UE Boom2 (cost $249.95) or MEGABOOM ($349.95).”

“Doesn’t everyone?” he dryly responded.

In fact, my son, a personal trainer, has several UEs and this will be a great way to motivate the troops in the early morning boot camp in the park.

“The portable Bluetooth speaker market is so crowded that UE has to do it better,” he said. “We were the first to add Apple Siri and Google Now support, the first to deliver true 360° sound, the first to offer stereo pairing, the first to have an IPX7 waterproof speaker. We continue to lead with innovation …”

You can tell he is a convert.
