The EPOS H6PRO gives you gaming audio clarity and comfort, both open and closed

EPOS is no slouch when it comes to audio excellence, and its latest H6PRO headsets continue raising the bar for others to reach. They come in open and closed acoustic versions, allowing you to experience sound the way you want.

The H6PRO is EPOS' latest high-end gaming headset with exceptional, natural, and expansive high-fidelity audio for the ultimate gaming experience. The headset builds on the company’s award-winning GSP-600 series but ups the ante with new features.

These include powerful sound, an intuitive and detachable boom microphone, durable materials, long-lasting comfort, and two 3.5mm audio jacks that work with Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox series X and S, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. Note there is no wireless functionality, being aimed at gamers who want minimal latency.

It's available now with a recommended retail price of $259 and comes in three colours (green, black, and white) - but what’s really notable is the headset also comes in two significantly different variants. These centre around the concept of closed and open audio.

The closed audio headphones are those you will be most familiar with, offering earcups that entirely surround your ears and take the outside world away. The open audio headphones similarly have ear cups that fit over your ears - but with an open-backed, grille-like exterior, which allows air and some outside noise to come in.

The closed audio variant gets you right into the action - frenetic, absorbing, immersive sound. The open audio variant offers excellent sound also, make no mistake there - but with the difference being others in the house won’t scare you to death if they come up behind you, and you can endure even longer gaming sessions without your ears getting warm or sore.

They both have binaural headphone surround sound support through software, a raise-to-mute microphone which is also detachable if you don’t want to speak at all, an ergonomic volume wheel, and two sets of audio cables to work with the devices of your choice.

However, the decision between closed and open audio comes down to your lifestyle, living arrangements, gaming time, and other preferences. iTWire has tried both models out and they’re both winners. The closed audio headset is truly immersive, while the open audio headset delivers stunning sound across a wide soundstage - and with extra airflow around the ear and less surprise by what’s going on around you for a minimal trade-off in absolute immersion.
