Got a PS4? Foxtel Now arrives in time for high-def GoT

Just days before Game of Thrones Season 7 starts on 17 July, the Foxtel Now app has arrived on Playstation 4 in time for HD Game of Thrones.

Although Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres in the US on 16 July, Sunday night, Australians see the highly anticipated show airing in our time-zone altered future of 11am AEST, 17 July, Monday morning, which exactly matches the US broadcast timeframe, with an encore screening at 8.30pm.

Foxtel is the only way to truly legally watch Game of Thrones as each episode airs in Australia, and even though other sites have explained that you could sign up for a free two-week trial in the last two weeks of Season 7 to pay nothing, if you’re a new user, and as long as you remember to cancel in time, no true GoT fan could resist new episodes, or put up with hearing the inevitable spoilers.

Foxtel has also made GoT available to its streaming customers in high definition for the first time with the launch of the Foxtel Now app on select platforms, with HD programming available on PlayStation 4, PCs and Macs via the Google Chrome browser, Google Chromecast devices and Telstra TV.

Now, HD isn’t available to stream on mobile or tablet, or at least, not yet, but you will surely want to watch television’s most anticipated show on as gloriously large a screen as you possibly can.

It’s also the case that Foxtel users with traditional HD IQ boxes have always been able to watch GoT in HD, but for the fans of “cut the cord” streaming technologies, this was a long-awaited development.

So, while I’ll be watching via Foxtel Now on a Telstra TV, Playstation 4 owners can download Foxtel Now from the Playstation Store on PS4 and PS4 Pro models, although you’ll have to subscribe to the Foxtel Now service via its website.

Foxtel Now has a range of content packs to choose from, but it is possible to get either the Pop or the Drama pack on their own, both of which include Game of Thrones and lots of other popular TV shows, for $15 per month, (or $25 for both for even more programming) with no lock-in contract.

This makes watching Game of Thrones legally a very inexpensive and easy, fiddle-free proposition.

After all, why put up with dodgy, low-quality, buffering streams featuring copious pop-up ads, trying to install drive-by malware or rope you into other online scams that anyone who has dabbled in the dark side of content would have had the misfortune of experiencing?

If you value your time, and your entertainment experience, then its nice to know we live in 2017, with fantastic legal streaming TV and movie options to choose from at very affordable pricing!

And if you haven’t experienced Game of Thrones yet, Foxtel Now has all six previous seasons, too.

Naturally, Deanne Weir, Foxtel’s managing director of Content Aggregation and Wholesale, is excited at the development, and said: “We’re thrilled to add PlayStation 4 to our list of Foxtel Now supported devices so soon after launch. When we announced the arrival of Foxtel Now just a few weeks back, we promised a series of quick updates and today’s news couldn’t come at a better time for fans of Game of Thrones who are eager to follow the schemes and scandals of next week’s season opener.”

Patrick Lagana, director of Marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia said: “We’re delighted to announce Foxtel Now as a new addition to the strong portfolio of video and TV services available on PlayStation 4.

“The quality of content and convenience of Foxtel Now, paired with our brand new video interface, means there’s never been a better time to be entertained on PlayStation.”

And if you’ve got a device that should be running Foxtel Now, but isn’t yet on the list, we’re told that “additional devices will continue to be updated in the coming months, until then, other devices, including PlayStation 3, Xbox One and select Smart TVs are able to stream Foxtel content in SD via the Foxtel Play app".
