AMD launches 'world-first' 7nm graphics card: AMD Radeon VII

By

AMD's new Radeon VII graphics card has arrived, built on "enhanced second-generation Vega architecture", promising "2X the memory and 2.1X the memory bandwidth compared to the Radeon RX Vega 64".

The new card promises "exceptional performance and amazing experiences for the latest AAA, eSports and VR titles, demanding 3D rendering and video applications, as well as next-gen compute workloads".

The company's senior manager, Product Management, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD, Scott Wasson, wrote a blog post with plenty of must read detail that expands on the below text.

However, we're told that the new card "enables maximum settings for extreme framerates at the highest resolutions" and "provides seamless, high-refresh HDR gaming at 1080p, ultrawide 1440p and 4K, while propelling next-generation photo and visual creation applications on vibrant 8K monitors".

It means the never-ending battle between AMD and Nvidia continues, with Intel lagging a gazillion GPU cycles behind as usual in the graphics space, and gives gamers yet another reason to spend more money - something that gamers love to do, bleeding cash to stay on the bleeding edge of technological supremacy.

AMD says its new card is "designed for gamers, creators and enthusiasts", and that its key features include:

  • 60 compute units, 3,840 stream processors and clocks up to 1,750 MHz drive high-performance gaming and hyper-realistic images.
  • 16GB HMB2 with 1 TB/s memory bandwidth and a 4,096-bit memory interface enable ultra-high resolution textures, hyper-realistic settings and life-like characters.
  • Exceptional DirectX 12 and Vulkan performance, including improvements of 35 percent in Battlefield V and 42 percent in Strange Brigade compared to the Radeon Vega 64.
  • Performance to drive 3D rendering, video editing applications and next-generation compute workloads, including up to 27% higher performance in Blender, up to 27% higher performance in DaVinci Resolve 15 and up to 62% higher performance in the LuxMark benchmark compared to Radeon Vega 64.
  • As the world’s largest ecosystem of adaptive sync gaming display technology, Radeon FreeSync offers more than 550 supported displays, delivering smooth, stutter-free gaming at every price point. Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR offers more than 2X better brightness and colour volume compared to sRGB.

We're told that the Radeon VII is now available on AMD.com from AUD$1069 inc GST.

In addition, AMD offers its "Raise the Game Fully Loaded bundle", where "gamers who purchase a Radeon VII or Radeon VII powered PC will receive complimentary PC versions of Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5 and The Division 2, three of 2019’s most anticipated titles".

AMD's official video is below, while stacks of reviews can be found at YouTube.
