Home Enterprise Staff ICT salaries performing strongly, says Seek

Employment site Seek's latest analysis shows the ICT sector is paying some of the highest average salaries in the country.

While the mining, resources and energy sector has the highest average advertised salary for the sixth year running - currently $116,108 - ICT comes in fifth place with a very respectable average of $104,874.

Seek ANZ managing director Kendra Banks noted that while the mining sector held on to first place, "average advertised salaries are well below the level they were at five years ago, with the sector posting the biggest decline in average advertised salaries over the last five years [-13.96%] and many of the major mining roles absent from the list of top salaries".

Mining, resources and energy dominated the 2013 rankings, offering 13 of the top 20 highest paying jobs, yet only two in 2018.

ICT has taken its place, with six of the top 20 salaries. They are:

  • ICT architects: $138,144 (the highest average advertised salary overall)
  • ICT management: $132,307
  • ICT security: $122,753
  • ICT product management and development: $120,740
  • ICT programme and product management: $120,554
  • ICT team leaders: $ 119,078

"What we are seeing is that candidates in information and communication technology are more motivated by salary and compensation than those in any other industry. Other factors that are of importance when considering roles within ICT are work-life balance and career development opportunities," said Banks.

"We expect to see salaries for ICT roles continue to strengthen across every sector in the coming years."
