Vault Systems to train govt IT workers in cloud skills

By

Australian secure cloud provider Vault Systems has launched a new training facility in Canberra called Vault Academy where it proposes to upskill 3000 federal government IT workers each year to meet what it claims is the growing demand for secure cloud services by government agencies.

The company is one of five providers that has gained the coveted Protected status from the Australian Signals Directorate which means it can host top secret government data.

The academy will open in May and charge $2640 for the two-day course. Vault Systems expects to train something in the region of 3000 IT workers annually.

A federal government study claims digitalisation of interactions between government and citizens could reduce total departmental expenditure by up to 12%.

A spokesperson told iTWire that individuals could also attend if they paid the fee.

"Though the courses are designed with the government in mind, the course is open to everyone," the spokesperson added.

Vault Systems founder and chief executive Rupert Taylor-Price said the academy had been established in consultation with a number of agencies who wanted their staff to know how to operate secure cloud systems.

“The cloud is an enabler of digital transformation because it offers organisations and agencies the speed and scale to drive innovation," Taylor-Price said.

"However, for government, information security must be retained in this more productive computing environment. To do this both secure cloud systems and IT professionals trained in its use are required.

"There is no doubt that the move towards digital transformation will only be successful if the Australian IT workforce has the necessary skills and experiences to support a seamless move to the cloud..

“We’re committed to upskilling IT professionals across government as it continues to push digital transformation of government services.

"Our programme will provide the skills and knowledge for secure cloud delivery through practical, hands-on training exercises that have been designed specifically for Government."
