VIDEO: Comms Minister Paul Fletcher talks 30 Years of Aussie Internet history - 3.5 WEEKS TO GO until 30iGala

30iGala: Federal Communications Minister Paul Fletcher talks with Peter Coroneos on 30 Years of the Internet in Australia with some clues as to his views on non regulation, the future and more - with all to be revealed during his 30iGala keynote.

Peter Coroneos, the former CEO and founder of the Internet Industry Association, and organiser of the 30th Anniversary of the Internet Gala Dinner, spoke with Paul Fletcher, Australia's Federal Communications Minister late last week.

Peter wrote: "Sitting down with Federal Comms Minister Paul Fletcher on Friday was a journey back through over 20 years of internet regulation, sometimes on the same side of issues, sometimes not so much – but always with a shared passion the amazing possibilities the Net could bring.

"His keynote address to the 30th Anniversary of the Internet in Australia Celebrations on 31 October is still under wraps – he’s not giving anything away in this interview, or is he?".

Peter continued: "Fletcher started his political career as a senior advisor for former communications minister Richard Alston. He took time out to build a strong corporate reputation as regulatory head at Optus and to write a definitive text on telco politics, then eventually returned to Canberra as the new Member for Braddon, replacing former Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson.

"He held the Ministries of Urban Infrastructure and Cities, and then Family and Social Services in the previous coalition Government, and with the return of the Morrison Government in May, he came the full circle as he was elevated to the position he once served.

"As this wide ranging discussion shows, we have an energetic Minister on a mission. He covers the excitement of bringing the NBN to the end of its build phase next year and the Government’s commitment to protecting citizens' legitimate expectations online (he also holds the Cyber Safety portfolio as well as the Arts).

"He explains why he believes times have changed from the early unregulated days of the Net and why multinational tech platforms need to come to the party. He concludes with a taste of a future connected world as he sees it.

"Please enjoy this 30 minute foray into the mind of one of the most powerful players in the telco/internet space today as we explore some of the landmark developments that brought us the internet as we know it."
