NetApp today announced a powerful new version of the NetApp clustered Data ONTAP operating system, Cloud ONTAP, OnCommand Cloud Manager, and NetApp Private Storage for Cloud.
Combined, NetApp says its offerings ‘enable customers to embrace the hybrid cloud while maintaining control of their data and ensuring choice across a blend of private and public cloud resources.’
We spoke to NetApp Australia’s Principal Technologist, John Martin, and Harbour IT’s General Manager of Cloud Services, Adam Simpson via Skype, as we missed out on attending the lunchtime launch event.
We recorded a video of our conversation - where we asked the NetApp and Harbour IT guys to speak directly to you, the reader - and have embedded it below.
George Kurian, eVP of Product Operations at NetApp said: “Hybrid clouds will be the backbone of IT today and tomorrow. We help enterprises maintain control of their data as they bridge their on-premises architecture with the cloud of their choice.”
“The NetApp Data Fabric for the Hybrid Cloud is the right architecture for building enterprise-class hybrid clouds. Our software improves the economics, flexibility, and business impact of a customer’s existing infrastructure, while our cloud technology solutions give customers the needed confidence in our ability to help them navigate the future.”
The company says it ‘believes that the data management elements in different parts of a hybrid cloud must be connected and work together to form a coherent, integrated, and interoperable system’.
Further, NetApp says this ‘data fabric’ enables data to be consistently managed, transported seamlessly from one part of the cloud to another. It also enables enterprises to apply consistent policies and services to the data in the hybrid cloud regardless of the application, technology or cloud infrastructure provider.
NetApp announced the various critical components of the NetApp Data Fabric, which include Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3, Cloud ONTAP, and OnCommand Cloud Manager, the NetApp Private Storage of Cloud and services around strategy, design, deployment and transition services.
One of NetApp’s Australian customers is Harbour IT, with its GM of Cloud Services, Adam Simpson saying: “As a leading provider of Cloud Computing, Infrastructure and Managed Services solutions, it is crucial that we provide our clients with seamless service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
“Choosing NetApp’s proven solutions, like clustered Data ONTAP and NetApp® MetroCluster, ensures we have the leading edge technology our customers need to keep them ahead of the pack. For every stage of our customers' cloud journey we have confidence that NetApp’s hybrid cloud vision encompasses the technology options needed to deliver the premium performance, availability and security our customers deserve.”
