"Such solutions will provide an alternative for small ISP, telco or IT businesses to purchase such wholesale services who may otherwise be edged out of the market by the major providers," NEC said.
"Combining NEC Australia's cloud telephony and cloud contact centre solutions with NBN connectivity means that NEC Nextep can provide wholesalers with an end to end solution for voice and data service."
NEC, globally, announced earlier this month the third generation of its cloud-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C) software, Univerge 3C, and a few days later announced plans to offer, again globally, a set of UC&C services on a software-as-a-service basis, based on Univerge 3C, starting in the US.
NEC confirmed to iTWire at the time that these service would be offered in Australia in mid 2012. The move is in line with the company's aim, announced in February to become "Australia's leading communications systems integrator by 2014."
When it announced its Univerge 3C-based cloud plans, NEC said: "NEC's unified communications as a service (UCaaS) is an expanded SaaS that includes a comprehensive suite of voice, data and video services featuring a simple, Web-based end-user client that is deployable across virtually any device, including PCs, smartphones and tablets."
