Nominations have opened for the Australian communications industry’s premier awards - the ACOMMS - with 12 categories celebrating performance excellence in innovation, customer service, artificial intelligence, sustainability, the space sector, diversity and inclusion and product solutions across the telecommunications sector.

The awards will be presented at the 14th Annual ACOMMS Dinner on 26 August 2020 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, with more than 400 expected to attend from the ICT industry, the media, regulators and politics.

The ACOMM Awards recognise industry-leading achievements among communications players including carriers/service providers, content providers, space and satellite players, technology vendors and professional services suppliers.

The Australian newspaper is once again the official media partner of the ACOMMS and the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, Paul Fletcher, has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the awards dinner.

Communications Alliance CEO, John Stanton, welcomed the continuing partnership with The Australian.

“The Australian has a strong editorial commitment to quality reporting in the communications, tech and IT space and is a natural partner for the ACOMMS,” Stanton said.

“Our collaboration provides a strong platform to communicate the state of innovation in the telco sector – including via a Special Report published by The Australian, highlighting the achievements of ACOMM finalists and winners.

The 2020 ACOMMS will be awarded to companies that have excelled in:

  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Sustainability
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Australian Space Industry Award
  • Innovation (Large)
  • Innovation (SME)
  • Vendor Innovation
  • Services to Industry - Professional Services
  • Commitment to Customer Service (Corporate / Consumer)
  • Community Contribution
  • Best Mobile Solution
  • Communications Ambassador Award

In addition, the Communications Ambassador Award recognises an outstanding individual who exemplifies the sector’s values and has made a significant contribution to the industry.

Stanton encouraged companies small and large to submit their work in relevant categories.

“The award categories have evolved this year to reflect some significant trends in our industry, such as the burgeoning influence of Artificial Intelligence and the exciting growth of the Australian space industry.

“We are also excited to honour, for the first time, Australian telco players that demonstrate excellent performance in terms of the diversity and inclusive nature of their practices and workforce, and companies that excel in the area of sustainability.”

“Once again we expect the awards to produce strong competition and look forward to honouring the organisations that have showcased the highest standards and industry best practice over the past year.”
