Salary eyed by IT professionals when seeking employment

The most important factor that IT job seekers consider when looking for jobs is attractive salary, according to a survey ran by Clicks IT Recruitment.

TheIT Workforce Insights Report reveals a trend of sustained optimism in the IT job market. Respondents are more optimistic now compared to 2019 before the global pandemic. Optimism is highest in Victoria, according to the report.

For many organisations, COVID-19 highlighted the importance of technology and accelerated investment. Clicks IT Recruitment says the perceived strength of today’s IT employment market, compared to the mass salary freezes and even decreases when the pandemic began last year, may explain why salary is front of mind for IT workers this year.

For the last five years, IT professionals have reported suitable responsibilities and challenges as most important when applying for new jobs.

The survey also indicates that the skills and experience candidates can gain is another strong motivator for switching roles.

This year, working from home was introduced as a new survey option. 5% of IT job seekers said working from home was most important to them when considering new employment options.

The 13th edition of Clicks’ annual IT Workforce Insights Report surveyed over 1100 IT professionals across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Canberra working in management and specialists roles spanning over 20 disciplines.

“The key takeaway for employers who are hiring or employing IT professionals is that money matters. What we’ve seen in the report this year is more people telling us that money will sway their decision to stay or leave jobs. This is also coming up in the conversations we’re having with candidates every day,” concludes Clicks IT Recruitment managing director Ben Wood.
