The legal sector is one of the fastest growing industries to adopt a new online video search tool to meet the unique challenges facing lawyers in the age of video conferencing, according to tech startup Linius Technologies.
The rapid growth of online video calls since the onset of COVID has created challenges for the legal industry; tasks like presenting evidence, depositions, and record-keeping begin to be managed remotely.
Chris Richardson, Linius CEO, addresses the challenge. “Linius’ Whizzard is a game-changer for the legal sector as it allows lawyers to sift through countless hours of video content within seconds, which saves hours of administrative time as well as provides assurances that no stone has been left unturned.”
Richardson says the “business of law, including the sensitive nature of legal information, regulations, and compliance governing record-keeping and data privacy are huge considerations for legal firms changing any part of their operations.”
However, the legal industry on a global scale like many sectors has been forced to adapt and use technology during the COVID-19 pandemic era.
According to Linius, L&D and CLE videos, webinars, courtroom video conferencing, depositions and day-to-day video meetings have now become more common.
“Recorded video content, which would have to be laboriously filtered through, is now a valuable piece of searchable content where educational ‘nuggets of wisdom’ or even evidence of wrongdoing can be found and shared within seconds”, Richardson notes.
Zoom announced it had more than 300 million-plus participants per day and Microsoft Teams reported up to 2.7 billion meeting minutes per day in 2020.
Built on the Amazon tech stack and already integrated with Zoom, Webex Meetings, and Microsoft Teams, Linius’ video technology is the new search engine designed for the legal sector.
It works just like Google whereby key words or phrases are inserted in the search field, and Linius’ Video Virtualisation Engine returns results.
“However, unlike a transcript, you can see people speaking”, Richardson says.
Law firms are generating multiple terabytes of video data every day. Richardson says Linius’ technology will streamline the search and compilation of L&D, CLE videos, webinars, partner videos, courtroom video and depositions, as well as Zoom meetings.
Whizzard ensures this vast content is used efficiently “so users can research any topic, and uncover relevant content across multiple platforms and share among their team.”
Richardson says Whizzard could particularly “help put an end to the arduous task of combing through deposition recordings.”
He concludes: “The problem is, hours of video need to be laboriously trawled by real people in real time. With Whizzard, key search terms can be entered into the search field and results show up almost instantly.”
