A forthcoming documentary promotes the idea that sustainability should be a major focus for quantum technology.

The documentary Quantum Technology | Our Sustainable Future – produced by The Quantum Daily in partnership with Oxford Instruments Nanoscience – will be released on YouTube on 29 July 2021. The trailer can be seen below.

It features insights from leading quantum computing experts including:

Google Quantum AI head of product Alan Ho
IBM Research staff member Flaviu Cipcigan
IBM Thomas J Watson Research Centre IBM fellow Tamar Eilam
Intel Labs research scientist Nicolas Sawaya
NIST Physical Measurement Laboratory deputy director Carl Williams
Orca Computing CEO Richard Murray
Origin Quantum general manager Zhang Hui
Oxford Instruments NanoScience MD Stuart Woods
Oxford Quantum Circuits CEO Ilana Wisby
PsiQuantum CSO Pete Shadbolt

"Our team is driving important conversations in the global quantum technology industry, ranging from ethics to commercialisation," said The Quantum Daily CEO Alex Challans.

"The documentary highlights that the environment and sustainability are important issues for the industry's leading pioneers as they look to build out their roadmaps, and that these new technologies are seen as a potential force for positive change."

Woods said "We have one planet, and these conversations must happen now.

"The broad participation of industry thought leaders in this film shows the support and the importance of prioritising sustainability in emerging technologies."
