Nimble arrays go Fibre Channel

By

Nimble Storage's CS series hybrid storage arrays now provide the option of Fibre Channel interfaces, along with denser storage.

The Nimble CS300, CS500 and CS700 series storage arrays can now be configured with Fibre Channel interfaces in addition to the standard iSCSI support.

Fibre Channel is not available for the CS210 and CS215 'value array' configurations.

Australian wholesale cloud/IaaS provider Terra participated in Nimble's Fibre Channel beta program. Co-founder and principal director Rob Georgievski said "This has been the most efficient experience we've had deploying a new storage array. Nimble has delivered over 4x performance improvement over our previous storage.

"We are proud to say that customers hosted in our cloud environment have enjoyed a measured 80% reduction in processing times on SQL workloads and an enhanced user experience within Citrix deployments as a result of the Nimble array."

Nimble also announced increased scalability for CS series arrays. By raising the limit on the number of storage shelves that can be accommodated and also adopting higher-capacity hard drives and SSDs, the new limit is 1.6PB of raw capacity and 160TB of flash per cluster, according to Nimble CEO Suresh Vasudevan.

"Enterprise customers continue to adopt our flash solutions over incumbent vendors because our consolidation platform will adapt to meet the needs of growing workloads without disruption," said Vasudevan.

"By expanding the connectivity choice, we are now able to address enterprise-wide applications and workloads. Adding Fibre Channel protocol support dramatically expands our addressable market and ability to serve large enterprise and cloud service provider customers."

He also noted that the Fibre Channel option was released "a full quarter ahead of schedule."
