Dell EMC has announced a new generation of its PowerVault storage array family. The new models are aimed at SMEs.

The PowerVault ME4 Series comprise feature-rich, yet affordable storage arrays that are easy for SMEs to install and use, according to the company.

The ME4 Series supports 75% more drives than its predecessor for a 122% increase in raw storage capacity and a 400% increase in read IOPS.

It is said to suit many block-based storage applications including video surveillance, HPC, virtualisation/VDI, SAN, DAS, low cost consolidation, video editing, and NoSQL databases.

The three models support between 12 and 84 drives in any combination of SSDs and HDDs, allowing expansion to 4PB and up to 320,000 IOPS.

The storage controllers are based on dual-core Intel Broadwell processors, and the arrays support multiple protocols including Fibre Channel, iSCSI (and SFP+) and SAS host connectivity.

Included software covers data protection, thin provisioning, remote replication, snapshots, three-level tiering, volume cloning, integration with VMware vCenter and SRM, drive-level encryption and more.

The PowerVault ME4 can be installed by a customer in 15 minutes and is ready to go after 15 minutes of configuration, according to Dell EMC.

“Earlier this year, we made a commitment to simplify and streamline our storage portfolio to make it easier for customers to do business with us,” said Dell EMC president and general manager of storage, Jeff Boudreau.

“The new PowerVault ME4 Series is a key part of that strategy at the entry level, designed for customers looking for an affordable, yet fully featured storage array that’s optimised for SAN and DAS virtualised workloads.”

Prices start just under US$13,000.
