Cohesity adds branch office server to range

The new Cohesity solution for Robo (remote office/branch office) combines the company's software with certified servers from Cisco and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

It is designed for enterprises with many branch locations, such as banks, retailers, chain restaurants, rental car agencies, warehousing and distribution, pharmaceutical, and global IT services.

The Cohesity solution for Robo provides secure local storage that can be centrally managed alongside data centre and cloud storage.

It combines backup and recovery, file and object services, and cloud archiving.

Locating the storage at branch premises takes care of latency and bandwidth issues, while Cohesity's addresses data recoverability and compliance concerns.

The immutable file system provides a defence against ransomware, while technologies such as deduplication, compression, file and object storage, and encryption optimise storage and protect data.

Cohesity's instant mass restore capability can rapidly recover an entire branch when needed.

"Enterprises are looking for a simple and sustainable way to handle the increasing volume of data created and stored at edge locations," said Cohesity senior vice president of engineering and product management, Vineet Abraham.

"By offering the enterprise-class features of Cohesity software in a cost-effective, plug-and-play solution, we are empowering organisations to bring their data centre, cloud, and edge together on a single platform."

HPE vice president and general manager of big data analytics and scale-out data platforms Patrick Osborne said "Enterprises that rely on intelligent data platform solutions from HPE and Cohesity software to run backup, file and object services, and cloud archival use cases in their data centre can now extend that functionality to their branch office locations."

"This new solution plays a very important role in our portfolio and provides joint customers our best-in-class servers and services combined with Cohesity's innovative data management software," he added.

Cisco senior director of data centre solutions Siva Sivakumar said "Cisco's enterprise customers are increasingly generating and processing data in robo locations, and it's important that we offer them an industry-first solution that handles data management use cases in a simple, unified, and effective way.

"Cisco's UCS Servers and Intersight SaaS platform combined with Cohesity software deliver the ideal solution at scale with architectural consistency from Datacenter to Cloud to Edge."

Cohesity solution for Robo will be generally available to all customers from Cisco and HPE by autumn 2020. It is also available as a virtual appliance.

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).
