Object storage provider Cloudian has announced support for Red Hat OpenShift, allowing OpenShift users to deploy Cloudian's S3-compatible HyperStore in their own data centres.

Cloudian claims that this approach provides OpenShift users with a highly scalable, secure and cost-effective enterprise storage platform with the agility and ease-of-management needed for cloud-native applications.

"The dual trends of data sovereignty and public cloud retreat impacting Australian and New Zealand organisations make this an important and timely announcement," said Cloudian ANZ, ASEAN and Oceania regional director James Wright.

"As containerisation, serverless computing and microservices continue to quickly expand in the region – heavily driven by Red Hat's OpenShift products – Cloudian can enable businesses and governments to manage these services on-premises, at up to 70% less cost than the public cloud, and with data sovereignty baked in.

"This will be a huge boon for our growing number of ANZ customers, particularly in the finance, telecoms, healthcare, and public sector industries where data security and sovereignty are front and centre."

Cloudian CTO Jon Toor said "Over the past year, we've been working to bring our industry-leading object storage solutions to more customers and serve a broader range of use cases.

"Today's announcement speaks to the essential role that object storage is increasingly playing in enabling enterprises to leverage modern applications so they can drive new innovations and advancements."
