Hardware authentication security key provider Yubico has secured its first YubiEnterprise subscription deal in the Asia-Pacific, a regional council in Queensland, on a three-year deal.

The agreement was made possible by Yubico's partner in Queensland, NQBE. The company said it had expanded the availability of its service-based offering to the region.

Under the YubiEnterprise Subscription plan, Yubico supports businesses to buy and upgrade security keys.

Yubico recently issued its newest product, the YubiKey 5C NFC, which it claims is the first multi-protocol security key with smart card support, designed with both near-field communication and USB-C connections on one device.

"As security threats evolve so rapidly, the technologies designed to protect users do too," said Andrew Phillips, chief executive at NQBE.

"Having the ability to update our customers' YubiKeys to the latest model each year with YubiEnterprise Subscription will ensure they have all the latest security protocols in place."

The YubiKey, delivers strong hardware protection, with a simple touch, across any number of IT systems and online services. The YubiHSM, Yubico's portable hardware security module, protects sensitive data stored in servers.

"YubiEnterprise Subscription provides considerable cost and time savings, helping organisations to simplify their approach to strong authentication as their business evolves," said Fredrik Krantz, senior vice-president, EMEA and APAC, Yubico.

"With immediate success from the initial roll out in the US and Canada, we are proud to now offer YubiEnterprise Subscription to our APAC channel partners."

YubiKeys have been usually sold on a per-device basis but with YubiEnterprise Subscription, customers can buy them on a per-user basis. Lost or stolen YubiKeys are replaced, and upgrades to new models are offered.
