Featuring pre-conference training and all manner of hacking, this is the premier computer security event in Australia for those who prefer to not wear a suit.

According to conference organiser Chis Spencer, "Sponsored by Google, Microsoft, Facebook and the Defence Signals Directorate, Ruxcon brings together over 600 hackers, academics and professionals with a passion for network security, reverse engineering, and all things hacking, for in depth discussions about the latest vulnerabilities and security threats.

"The talents of home-grown security researchers will be demonstrated alongside high-profile international security experts hailing from France, Italy, China, India, UK and the USA.

"During the course of the weekend, participants will soak up 29 presentations on a diverse range of cutting edge security topics covering everything from bypassing popular enterprise security protections to breaking into telephone systems."

Highlighted speakers include Greens Senator Scott Ludlam who will join a panel discussion on data retention laws and also the buying and selling of exploits by governments and their agencies.

Verizon's Mark Goudie and the AFP's Alex Tilley will also make return appearances.

As is usual for these events there will be both capture-the-flag and lock-picking competitions.

Registrations (a mere $350) for the October 20th & 21st event may be made at the conference web site, but hurry; the event is expected to fill up well before the kick-off.
