Only one bid was received for hosting the conference next year.
The conference will be held from January 28 to February 2, which includes the Australia Day public holiday. This is not unusual as it happened in Brisbane in 2011 too.
Canberra has hosted the conference once before, in 2005.
In a related development, John Ferlito has been re-elected uncontested as president of Linux Australia for 2012. He took over from James Turnbull midway through 2010 when the latter left for the US to take up an employment opportunity, and was elected in his own right in 2011.
Other officials for 2012 are Michael Carden (vice-president), Peter Lieverdink (secretary), Joshua Hesketh (treasurer), James Polley and Bianca Gibson (ordinary committee members).
The position of third ordinary committee member will be decided through an online by-election with Francois Marier, Clinton Roy and Anibal Monsalve Salazar having been nominated.
