Optus signs deal to sell VMware's SD-WAN technology

Australia's second biggest telco Optus has joined with cloud, networking and security provider VMware to offer the latter's SD-WAN technology to Australian businesses.

The VMware solution works across both fixed and wireless connectivity, a statement from Optus said, claiming that this would more choice in working.

Optus Enterprise vice-president of Product Innovation Deon Liebenberg said: “Our exciting partnership with VMware is part of Optus Enterprise’s strategy to work with global leaders to provide our enterprise customers with a greater choice of digital networking solutions fit for their unique needs.

"VMware Dynamic Multipath Optimisation, a key VMware SD-WAN capability, offers our enterprise customers an improved experience with the ability to measure live network conditions and react with a diverse range of processes to maximise performance.

“The service will also enhance user experiences across common business tools, such as Microsoft 365 and Amazon Web Services-delivered cloud services.

"By combining Optus’ strong 4G and 5G network with VMware SD-WAN, we look forward to enabling transformative cloud access and mobile experience, particularly for branch and home users.”

Ron Longo, vice-president Worldwide Service Provider Sales, VMware, said: “VMware SD-WAN is a foundational component of the VMware Secure Access Service Edge platform and offers operational simplicity and more secure access in an increasingly ‘work from anywhere’ environment.
