Aruba announces EdgeConnect Microbranch, bringing SD-WAN and SASE security to the home and remote office in a single access point Featured

Aruba, a division of HPE, today announced its new EdgeConnect Microbranch solution. This is a home office and small office network solution for hybrid work environments, securely providing remote personnel with all of the traditional services that workers receive in-office, all delivered via a single Wi-Fi access point with no gateway, agent, or additional hardware required. It brings peace of mind to IT departments and remote workers alike, ensuring security and productivity no matter where people are.

EdgeConnect Microbranch gives IT departments peace of mind that employee experiences and security are consistent, no matter where workers are located even if it is their own home.

EdgeConnect Microbranch delivers the full range of connectivity services to remote workers, accelerating troubleshooting and maintaining corporate protections, by seamlessly extending the organisation’s Zero Trust and Secure Access Services Edge (SASE) security frameworks to wherever they are.

EdgeConnect Microbranch is part of Aruba's Edge Services Platform, or ESP, which compromises access points and a new suite of SD-WAN services. It builds upon Aruba’s legacy of robust connectivity, security, and zero-touch onboarding experiences all through its popular remote access points (RAPs).

In this era of greatly accelerated remote working, EdgeConnect Microbranch allows hybrid workers access to the same tools, applications, functionality, and security at home as they would have in the office. This also provides the business confidence its remote workers are as secure, and as productive, in home offices or small branch offices, as they would be in the head office - not to mention ad-hoc locations such as retail pop-ups, kiosks, and mobile clinics.

EdgeConnect Microbranch achieves this by adding SD-WAN and SASE services to the Aruba RAPs, augmenting their existing connectivity, identity-based access control, management, and analytics capabilities. There is no need for additional hardware or agents on devices.

EdgeConnect Microbranch also adds services such as policy-based routing, allowing IT to optimise how application traffic is routed to a destination and complements existing services such as Air Slice which dynamically allocates AP radio resources to specific applications. For example, video conferencing call quality can be enhanced by prioritising that traffic over other traffic and routing it directly to the trusted SaaS vendor instead of to the data centre for inspection.

Other features include optional cellular backup, tunnel and route orchestration, WAN availability visibility and troubleshooting by detecting latency, jitter, and other connectivity issues that IT would otherwise not see.

Pat Devlin, director, Aruba South Pacific, said, “in a cluttered space of SD-WAN and security solutions for remote workers, Aruba has delivered a unique proposition with EdgeConnect Microbranch, that considers what it takes in the new world to not only have to work from home, but to treat that home like a branch.”

“If your employees are going to work from home and you genuinely want to treat working from home as a secure office environment, then our Aruba EdgeConnect Microbranch is the only solution. Being a virtual platform, it is secure, highly cost-effective and accessible to organisations of all sizes. In today’s world, SD-WAN should be affordable and scalable right down to a branch of one. Not only does this solution cater to home offices, but also provides secure network access to pop-up shops, retail kiosks, construction sites and doctors conducting telehealth sessions,” Devlin said.

The Aruba EdgeConnect Microbranch solution is available in early access and will be generally available in March 2022 for any AP running ArubaOS 10 with a Foundation AP License. This includes qualified APs customers already own and manage in Central.
