Amazon Marketplace Summit in Sydney next month

By

Online retailing behemoth Amazon will hold a summit in Sydney on 13 November to provide advice on setting up and growing a business online.

The Amazon Marketplace Seller Summit will be held at Jones Bay Wharf in partnership with the Australian Retailers Association and the SME Association of Australia.

Amazon launched its Marketplace in 2000 and sales from sellers on the portal now make up more than 50% of sales on Amazon sites globally.

The company said that more than 500 Australian businesses had registered to sell through its channels when the Amazon Marketplace goes live.

The summit will feature keynote presentations from Amazon Australia country manager Rocco Braeuniger, and Fabio Bertola, head of Amazon Marketplace in Australia.

Attendees are expected to include local retailers, Australians running established SMEs, and aspiring entrepreneurs planning to launch a start-up and use Amazon’s Marketplace to reach customers.

“The Internet and technology have the power to level the playing field between big and small businesses, empowering Australian companies, large and small, to grow their sales and their business online,” said Braeuniger.

“We look forward to enabling local businesses to make their products available to a wide audience, not only in Australia, but also worldwide.”

Australian Retailers Association executive director Russell Zimmerman said: "We believe that Amazon’s arrival brings new possibilities to Australian retailers, small and large. We are pleased to work alongside Amazon to bring the Seller Summit to Sydney so that businesses and retailers alike can receive practical advice and guidance on how to make the most of Amazon Marketplace.”

SMEA board member Mark Flack said: "We’re proud to partner with Amazon for its Seller Summit and beyond to help Australian small businesses learn more about how Amazon Marketplace can help them grow.

“The reality is that there’s a lot of education that needs to happen among the small business community when it comes to being digitally savvy and using the right tools to take their business to the next level. The SMEA is committed to ensuring that our own community has all the information needed to make the most of the digital opportunity.”
