A new version of the Hadoop-based Actian Analytics Platform due for release at the end of the month will include Actian's X100 SQL engine, providing a complete, high-performance SQL implementation.
This allows existing SQL-oriented BI tools to access Hadoop databases without modification. It also means the large number of business analysts that are familiar with SQL can craft their own queries without having to learn anything about Hadoop and without having to install any add-ons to gain SQL functionality.
"Actian has removed all major barriers to big data analytics on Hadoop―basically making Hadoop industrial strength," said Steve Shine, CEO and president of Actian.
"By tightly embedding our record-breaking SQL engine within every node of Hadoop, our platform transforms how customers will use Hadoop and delivers a solution that is years ahead of the competition."
According to the company's benchmarking, Actian SQL in Hadoop is up to thirty times faster than Impala, its closest competitor.
