Open-source file syncing and sharing software company Nextcloud has announced the launch of Nextcloud Hub 20, which adds new features and also integrates third-party social media, productivity and collaboration platforms like Twitter, GitHub and Discourse.

Frank Karlitschek, chief executive and founder of Nextcloud, told the company's annual conference in Berlin on Saturday that with the new version, users could look for information from within Nextcloud and solutions like GitLab, Jira and Moodle.

Additionally, Nextcloud Talk 10, the chat client for the cloud software, made it bridging possible between other chat services like Slack, Microsoft Teams and Matrix.

"Nextcloud Hub 20 is a dramatic step for users, bringing the different platforms they use during the day into an integrated experience," Karlitschek said.

"This can reduce friction, improve reaction times, avoid context switching and ultimately bring greater productivity to our tens of millions of users across the globe - all the while protecting data security and digital sovereignty of private and enterprise users."

The company said in a statement that Nextcloud Hub 20 was built on an open API, the Open Collaboration Services, which made integration efforts transparent and well-documented.

It said the new version had more than three dozen integrations, with bridging between the Nextcloud Talk chat service and Microsoft Teams, Slack, Matrix, IRC, XMPP, Steam and many more.

"Nextcloud's integrated, unified search can provide results from ticketing systems like Jira and Zammad, development platforms like GitHub and GitLab, e-learning systems like Moodle, forums like Discourse and Reddit, social media like Twitter and Mastodon and more," the company added.

Nextcloud's sales chief Andreas Rode said: "Imagine a invoice generated by the accounting system triggering a conversion of a word document to a PDF file in Nextcloud through Webhooks Flow and, in turn, creating a chat message with public link to the PDF via a Talk bridge into a Slack channel of the customer.

"The account manager can receive a push notification on their mobile device when the invoice payment comes in, or see it the next morning when they log into Nextcloud on their Dashboard and respond with a Talk command to mark the invoice paid in the accounting system. The opportunities to optimise workflows at our customers are endless."
