Back in 2004, Sydneysiders Hassan Issa and Natasha Sullivan were looking for a laptop bag – in anything other than black! That ignited a passion for creating beautifully crafted products that were functional and visually appealing. Toffee design is a contemporary take on classic retro – just what millennials love.
Issa said, “Natasha’s love of colour and fashion, together with her penchant for hunting and collecting pieces at vintage and antique auctions inspire Toffee’s design aesthetic; reminiscent of classic and retro forms of the past, with contemporary styling.”
Sullivan countered, “Hassan is always seeking out ways to evolve Toffee in an ever-changing environment. It might be at a trade show, but more often it’s in the quiet moments of a long-distance run, hiking Kilimanjaro or listening to music that his next idea will come.”
Toffee contacted iTWire as it has covered bags from STM, Incase, and others and said Osaka was a new arrival and by all indications would be one of the top selling tablet satchels – could we review it?
Toffee calls it a unisex look and while it could be, my wife and I feel it has more male overtones. It comes in navy, mustard, khaki, and black made of a water resistant, waxed canvas exterior with a leather flap strap (push lock buckle) and black webbing shoulder strap with a wide removable shoulder pad. It even has a convenient hook strap on the back.
Inside it has a padded lining and a tablet slot and general storage slot. On the rear is a dedicated phone slot that will fit up to an iPhone 7 Plus and on the front under the flap is a zippered compartment 15 (D) x 18 (W) cm that will fit documents. Overall size is 25 (H) x 28 (W) x 5 (D) cm and it weight is 520g.
I loaded it with a 10.1” Microsoft Surface which is larger and thicker than Apple iPad 9.7 and should fit an iPad Pro 10.5 (check the latter before you buy). I liked the separate mid-compartment that allowed articles wider than 50mm and the adjustable strap clasp to accommodate overstuffing the satchel.
