Logitech Skype SmartDock – above the Surface (first look)

Logitech has collaborated with Microsoft to build a Surface Pro 4 dock for Skype for Business room systems – it brings all the cables and controls to one point.

The SmartDock has HDMI to connect to the TV screen, three USB ports for extension microphones, gigabit ethernet and a headset jack. An optional extender box can hide all that cable clutter and add additional functionality.

The main collaboration has been on the User Interface software that makes the Surface Pro 4 a Skype for Business Controller that works with all Logitech conference cameras and a wide range of other AV devices.

Joan Vandermate, Logitech Global's senior director – marketing for Video Collaboration, said, “Logitech and Skype for Business (SFB) have teamed for many years to deliver high quality, easy to use, devices. With Logitech SmartDock SFB users can easily start video calls, share content in a meeting, and streamline the collaboration experience.”

The dock features a motion sensor to wake up the Surface Pro 4 whenever someone is in the room and vice versa.

It supports up to 1080p @60fps video conferencing. It works via an integrated Surface “ribbon” Connector and is secured by a Kensington-style security slot.

The extender box uses a single 5m, five-in-one cable that includes dual HDMI, Ethernet, USB, and Power. It has 2 x USB 3.1 ports, and two amplified HDMI ports supporting up to 1080p @60fps. It also has an Integrated Logitech GROUP Hub with DIN ports for GROUP Camera and Speakerphone

Packages including the Surface Pro 4 start from $3999.95.

  • Huddle Room (up to 6 pax): SmartDock, Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (i5) with Skype for Business Client and Logitech ConferenceCam Connect
  • Medium Meeting Room (up to 14 pax): as above with Logitech Group
  • Large Meeting Room (up to 20 pax): with two extension mics
